Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambga has resigned from his post as national soccer team coach, a day after announcing his squad for the Chan finals set for Mauritius this weekend.

Chidzambga was under pressure to resign after a poor showing at the Afcon finals in Egypt that saw the team exiting in embarrassing fashion following a 4nil humiliation in the hands of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

But as it seemed the veteran coach had soldiered on despite pressure and was set to lead the team at the Chan finals, Chidzambga dropped a bombshell.

“The letter serves to notify you of my decision to resign from the position of coach of the Zimbabwe men’s football team with immediate effect. My last day at work will be July 24, 2019,” Chidzambga’s letter read in part.

It was not immediately clear why he arrived at the decision but it followed criticism of his selection of the team for Mauritius after excluding in form Caps United midfielder Josta Ngodzo.

Ngodzo was omitted from the initial squad but following a public outcry, the exciting midfielder was included in the squad.

However, it has emerged the former Highlanders and FC Platinum player did not have a valid passport.
