Harare residents are set to bear the brunt of the current fuel crisis with the local authority saying it has no fuel to collect refuse in all parts of the city.

The development, observers say, will pose a health hazard to millions of residents.

Council spokesperson Michael Chideme says the reaction to emergencies has also been affected by the shortages.

“We do not have fuel, the fuel we had has been exhausted and we now await allocation. We have the money to buy but we don’t have the commodity,” Chideme said.

A survey by zifmnews.com around the city’s most suburbs confirmed that refuse was not being collected with garbage piling up in the areas.

Zimbabwe has been faced with a severe fuel crisis that has seen vehicles queuing for days to get the precious commodity.
