Government is in the process of resettling illegal farmers who have been staying on farms without proper papers, a senior government official has said.
Minister of State for Matebeleland North province, Richard Moyo said alternative land will be availed by government for the illegal settlers.
“This programme was introduced by the ministry of Lands and since it was noticed that there are people who have lived in those particular places for many years the government said that alternative places should be offered for the villagers,” Moyo said.
“It is an exercise done to the illegal settlers with no papers and this issue will be attended nationwide.”
This follows a resettlement currently being undertaken at Makwati farm in Umguza district.
The settlers have been at the farm, but without papers, since the land reform programme in 2000.
