...as MDC youth secretary is arrested for inciting violence

The opposition MDC has confirmed that its national deputy chairperson, Job Sikhala, who was reported mission while he was due to appear in court to face subversion charges has been spotted in Gutu, Masvingo.

Sikhala was arrested on Tuesday and is being charged for subverting a constitutionally elected government following his remarks in Bikita over the weekend that he will overthrow President Emerson Mnangagwa before 2023.

There was speculation that Sikhala, who is the Zengeza West Member of Parliament, had been “abducted” while on his way to the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

Sikhala is set to appear in a Masvingo court to answer to the charges.

“MDC vice president Hon. Sikhala was spotted at Mukute Inn in Gutu where he bought a plate of Sadza in a restaurant in the company of heavily armed police in plain clothes,” a statement from the MDC read in part.

Scores of MDC supporters took to the streets to protest against Sikhala’s arrest.

Government through the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services refuted claims of Sikhala’s abduction saying the MP was in fact being taken to Bikita where he allegedly committed the crime.

Meanwhile, the MDC youth assembly secretary general, Gift Siziba has been arrested for allegedly inciting violence.
