The Telecommunications sector has recorded a rise in mobile Internet data usage which went up by 19%, while national mobile voice traffic declined by 15%.
In its sector review, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) says the sector recorded a 2.8 % increase in revenue close to $270 million in the quarter ended December last year.
POTRAZ says the mobile penetration rate has increased by 0.5% to reach 94.8% while the internet penetration rate declined by 0.1% to reach 50%.
The report says state run mobile network operator NetOne added over half a million active subscribers in the year 2016 resulting in a 14% increase and closing in on the market share.
NetOne acting CEO Brian Mutandiro says the telecoms company NetOne has introduced innovations and value adding services which have made it offer cheaper and efficient products.
