When it comes to female empowerment, nobody embodies it better than Queen Latifah!

The actress, rapper, and author added an honorary doctorate degree to her resume. The actress who’s known for playing strong female characters, an honorary doctorate from Rutgers University. took to social media to share her excitement, “say hello to the Honorary Dr. Dana Owens,” she wrote on Twitter. “Thank you, Rutgers University and congratulations, to all of the graduates of the class of 2018!”

During her speech to the class of 2018, Latifah, real name, Dana Owens, reminded each of the graduates that their home shapes who they are. She shared a story about growing up and the lessons that she learnt. She then shared about role models, “It was a foundation that taught me I didn’t need a role model. I didn’t need to try to be like someone else. I just needed to be me.”

The “U.N.I.T.Y” rapper joins hip hop artists such as Chance The Rapper,  Lecrae, LL Cool J and Diddy who have received honorary doctorate degrees.
