Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd make the shortlist for the London Football Awards’ Goal of the Season
The five nominees for Goal of the Season at this year’s London Football Awards have been announced.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who is shortlisted for Premier League Player of the Year, makes the list for his free-kick against Brighton in September.
The goal sealed Palmer’s hat-trick in the 31st minute, with the England international going on to become the first player to score four goals in the opening half of a Premier League game.
Harry Wilson’s innovative flick from November also makes the cut.
The Fulham winger showed brilliant reactions to equalise against Brentford in injury time when twisting his body and looping a volley with the outside of his boot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
James Tilley’s brilliant October strike is also on our five-goal shortlist, with The i Paper sponsoring Goal of the Season at the 2025 London Football Awards.
Tilley carried the ball from his own half before arrowing a strike into the far top corner for AFC Wimbledon against Morecambe.
Goalkeeper Josh Keeley also features after the Leyton Orient player – on loan from Tottenham – went up late on for a free-kick and headed in a stoppage-time equaliser against Oldham in the FA Cup.
Leyton Orient went on to win the tie and reach the third round with a winner in extra time.
Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s volley from Chelsea’s 5-2 Women’s Super League victory over Tottenham completes the shortlist.
The Sweden international quickly sorted her feet to use the inside of her boot to volley into the far corner following Millie Bright’s cross.
