ED to launch Hills Luxury Golf Estate today

STAFF REPORTER

The Hills Luxury Golf Estate to be launched on Thursday by President Emmerson Mnangagwa brings a number of firsts not only for Zimbabwe but for Southern Africa as it comes with a five-star branded hotel linked to a shopping mall and office park.

People buying into the estate will be investing into a luxury lifestyle portfolio that has a huge selling proposition in the event one wants to dispose of the property in the live, work, shop and play themed estate.

The estate comes with luxury homes branded with the name of a five star hotel whose brand would be released in due course.

In mainland Africa only Egypt and Morocco have branded homes that allow the owners to enjoy hotel services if need arises and to rent out their properties to the hotel.

Peter Matkovich who designed the PGA length and standard golf course has done seven of Africa’s top 10 golf courses.

WestProp CEO Mr Ken Sharpe shed some light on how Matkovich pitched his idea for a world standard golf course.

“He approached us after he found out we were the owners of the land and said he wanted to leave a lasting legacy on his name. He felt this would be one of the major last projects that he wanted to design and implement. So after some long negotiations with him, we finally agreed he would do the design,” said Mr Sharpe.

He revealed that the name of prominent Zimbabwean golfer Nick Price would be engraved on the driving range.

“So we will have a Nick Price product within the offering. And then the agreement was that they would make the golf course a PGA length, PGA championship quality golf course. So if we can bring the PGA to Zimbabwe, we will be the second African country,” he said.

The Estate will have 860 residential units that include a retirement complex (home), apartments, branded villas attached to a five star hotel, tennis and swimming academies named after some of Zimbabwe’s sporting sensations, a gymnasium, and a fully-fledged and equipped hospital.

Part of the 860 units will include 40 branded apartments, five branded ultra-luxury presidential villas and  three penthouses.
