Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has challenged governance and accountancy professionals to uphold high ethical standards and spearhead the country’s economic transformation by fostering transparency and accountability, Business Times can report.
Speaking at the ongoing Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGAIZ) annual conference in the resort city of Victoria Falls, Chiwenga also said the professionals should participate in the formulation of policies.
They should also create robust regulatory frameworks that will benefit the country’s economic growth.
“I challenge you, the governance and accountancy professionals, to spearhead our nation’s economic transformation. Utilize your expertise to foster transparency, accountability, and the adoption of technology, while upholding ethical practices across all sectors. Contribute actively to policy development to create robust regulatory frameworks that support sustainable economic growth. Most importantly, cultivate a culture of integrity and ethical behavior in both public institutions and the private sector,” Chiwenga said.
The economic situation in the country has been caused by lack of accountability and transparency and also some of the policies in the country are affecting the economic growth.
Chiwenga also said good governance is crucial as it fosters investor confidence, ensures business steadiness as well as sustainability.
“The foundation of a prosperous and just society lies in strong governance and ethical accountancy. These are the cornerstones of our nation’s progress. Good governance fosters investor confidence, ensures business continuity and sustainability, and safeguards the public interest. It is not merely a compliance exercise but a strategic imperative that underpins economic growth and development. Your role as Chartered Governance and Accountancy Professionals is crucial in shaping the business landscape and ensuring ethical conduct across all sectors,” he said.
