YoungstaCPT On Why He Doesn’t Use Gangsterism To Appeal To People. YoungstaCPT has always been praised for the way he represents Cape Town in his music. The rapper has plenty accolades under his belt and he achieves it by rapping authentically about himself and where he comes from.
The Cape Of Good Hope rapper recently appeared on Riky Rick’s podcast Lab Live to detail the story of his life living in Cape Town as a young rapper. The two spoke about a variety of topics including the history of South African hip hop and the realities of living in South Africa today.
As the podcast’s host Riky Rick asked Youngsta if he has ever considered using gangsterism to benefit from his music. He used Die Antwoord as an example.
He said, “I can’t. I don’t have the right. Because it’s not an act for me, it’s not a script, it’s not a character that I can just portray at any moment and I go back home and I’m a different guy.“
“I don’t have the right as a coloured guy to speak on things that I’m not apart of.”
He then explained how he understands gangsterism from growing up. Youngsta says that once someone commits to going 100% into it, it becomes a big part of theirs and their family’s lives.
Youngsta mentions that there is a man he knows of who rapped about gangsterism when he came out of jail. He was a part of the 28 numbers gang. That man was the only man to ever rap about gangsterism.
YoungstaCPT finishes off by mentioning that he won’t rap about gangsterism because he never committed 100% to it and he can’t rap about 60% of the gang life.
