ZIMA stubbornness makes NAMA look sexy

[adrotate group="8"]

Either the team running the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) is drunk or maybe they have taken in too much zumbani over the past couple of months because their conduct is just baffling.

When the awards returned last year there was a lot of excitement in the music fraternity despite some questionable nominations and winners on the night of the event back in January.

The music sector thought it had finally got that woman who has all the elements it longed for. The curves, pretty face, the brains and a compassionate soul.

This woman was perceived to be better than longtime girlfriend, the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA).

But alas, they were in for a surprise.

The Curves

These resemble the capacity of the platform to recognize all genres of music and award the deserving acts in each category. This is something the NAMA’s cannot offer as the platform focuses on other genres of art and hence at the end of the day, usually pop musicians get the lion’s share of nominations.

Sadly, ZIMA’s curves seem fake. They look like they want to fall off when she is walking.

The criteria used to select nominees caused a stir last year and the ZIMA spokesperson, Benjamin Nyandoro is on record admitting their system needed some tweaking and they would do better in 2021 but the team flattered to deceive.

“…we are going to implement system disrupt as the Zimbabwe Music Awards. We want to ensure that the awards reflect the wishes of the people going forward,” Nyandoro said these very words while speaking to Rumby Chamvary on Power FM a few days after last year’s awards.

“We have heard the concerns of the public and I must say we take them very seriously,” he continued.

It is clear that ZIMA and Nyandoro do not care at all about what people say.

The blunders they made in some of the nominations says it all.

The decision to continue with the enter or sink approach is testament that they are not concerned about public opinion.

The Brains

“Our system has rules but these can be looked into to ensure that they assist in producing results that reflect on the demands of the public,” shared Nyandoro on the same interview.

After hearing this we were confident that things would be different in 2021.

But no!

Things actually become worse. A dancehall act gets nominated in the sungura category and Nyandoro and team put a brave face defending such hogwash.

Please respect the art ladies and gentlemen at ZIMA.

Really sad, just like the fake hips, the brains don’t seem to be functioning well for this beauty.

Pretty Face

Looks are deceiving indeed, this lady has proved that to us.

At least with NAMA you know what you are getting. She is not a trophy nor an ugly damsel, she is just fine. She goes on about her business is simple and quite predictable way. But these days she seems to have got her swagger back on since her handlers changed.

ZIMA is a definite trophy, with all her dimples and glowing eyes, you would think I have scored a big one but reality is that it’s just a smoke screen.

This explains why artists are not even interested to enter the awards. They don’t want to be associated with a deceptive woman.

We spoke to a number of artists this year as was the case last year and they confirmed that they never entered.

The fruit this woman produces is a disgrace in society and she needs to have some serious self-introspection if she hopes to maintain her status in the country.

Compassionate soul

As highlighted earlier when this lady came along, there was a view that she actually cared about the lonely sector. It appeared the helper had come.

Rewarding hard working acts in this economic environment is no easy task.

We definitely commend the fact that she managed to secure sponsorship to ensure that she dresses well and smells good whenever she pops up in the music streets filled with amazing vocals and crazy chords.

Shout out to her for that.

But if she is really concerned about the sector, she has to stop using to many cosmetics and start to embrace reality that she probably needs to eat healthier foods and not those deep fried wings.

More water and less booze as well as a bit of exercise. A regular jog in the aforementioned streets will help her get who really is buzzing and where the trends are.

Team ZIMA must do their research well and not be pressured by anyone.

Look the sector has gone for many years without recognition but Killer T, Jah Signal, Enzo and many more young lads keep making ends meet.

Such a platform should not be a cause for unnecessary headaches to the sector but should bring joy and raise levels of competition amongst acts.

When an artist in South Africa wins at the South African Music Awards that has some serious impact on bookings, ratings and even their performance fees goes up.

Sadly, ZIMA does not seem to aspire to reach such levels.

The big boys even without a nomination will stay big and even if Nutty O, Poptain or Holy Ten scoop awards nothing will change regards priority at big shows.

So baby girl, shape up otherwise you will just be another useless award platform which has very little impact on the music scene.

That lady whom when she passes folks smack fake smiles and as soon as she turns her back, curses start flying.
