Bridgerton Season 2 Set Photos Reveal Filming Is Underway
The Bridgerton boys are back in town.
Bridgerton fans rejoice, for Season 2 has officially started filming! Instead of Lady Whistledown breaking the news, it was Bridgerton star Luke Newton who shared some extra good tea today with new set photos from the Netflix series. Although Bridgerton only debuted last December and was renewed in January, the second season has already begun filming. (I’m sure Netflix is eager to capitalize on the series’ massive success.) Based on the romance series by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton follows the titular family as they experience the triumphs and heartbreaks of courting season during the Regency period in England. The first season focused on the blossoming romance between Daphne Bridgerton and Simon, Duke of Hastings, played by breakout stars Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page.
Newton’s Instagram set photos don’t give much away, but they do show off the eldest three Bridgerton brothers back in costume. We have one photo featuring Newton’s Colin and Luke Thompson’s Benedict on horseback, looking cheery as they wait for their cue. Plus, a video of this shot shows Newton presumably saying a joke and flipping his hair, while Thompson laughing hysterically in response.
Also in Newton’s post is our deeply angsty eldest brother Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. Season 2 will see Anthony take the spotlight from Season 1 “it” couple Daphne and Simon. In the last season, we saw Anthony struggling between his love for his mistress, Siena, and his duty as head of the family to marry well. Bridgerton’s next season will adapt Quinn’s second book in the series called The Viscount Who Loved Me. Anthony’s love interest, Kate , will be played by Simone Ashley (Sex Education). Given that the novel has been published for quite some time, we’ll refrain from listing any spoilers about the rakish brother and this new character.
Additionally, this next season of Bridgerton has a lot of questions to answer. The finale of the first season let us know the true identity of Lady Whistledown, and gave Daphne and Simon a happy ending by welcoming their first child. But the second season has us asking “What does the future hold for the Duke and Duchess of Hastings?” and “Will the second youngest daughter, Eloise, finally make her debut?” and even “What will happen to the sweet and romantic Colin Bridgerton after his heartbreaking scandal?” I probably have a million more questions I could ask, but as long as there is more great anachronistic music choices in Season two, I shall be content.
Bridgerton Season 1 is now available to stream on Netflix. Filming on Season 2 is underway but Nnetflix has not set a release date for the new season just yet. We’ll keep you up to date on everything happening in the meantime. Check out Newton’s set photos below.
