Govt to protect quality of country’s education : Professor Murwira

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation,Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira, yesterday said the government will ‘protect the quality of the country’s education system’.
He pledged to protect it enviously during his speech at the Harare Polytechnic graduation ceremony.
“So the way we do our education is vital. That’s why it is sacrosanct to guard the quality of our education. We will guard it jealously,” Professor Murwira said.
He added: “Therefore, it is important to focus on our education, on our skills, on our knowledge.
“The purpose of education is to liberate a people. Liberation means when you want food, you get it, when you want anything you get it,” Professor Murwira said.
He also said human capital development comes through quality education and technological advancement, among other things.
“I challenge graduates to use the skills acquired here to develop Zimbabwe and the rest of the continent,” he said.
Harare Polytechnic principal Dr Tafadzwa Mudondo said the graduates were equipped with the requisite skills to respond to the country’s challenges through sustainable home-grown solutions.
He added that the institution’s 2024–2026 strategy plan, among other things, fosters innovation, collaboration, and the accomplishment of accountability.
He went on to say that this strategic plan will help Harare Polytechnic be resilient, focused, effective, and relevant.
“By having a strategic plan, Harare Polytechnic can remain relevant, effective, focused and resilient in delivering high-quality education and training as per the dictates of government’s vision 2030 through demonstration of commitment to excellence in growing stakeholder value,” Dr Mudondo said.
