Mavima ropes in organization development experts

BUSINESS REPORTER

Professor Paul Mavima (pictured), the Minister of Skills Audit and Development, will rope in organization development specialists to aid in organizational transformation as the new ministry works to develop a strategic plan.

He revealed the plan at the organization leadership and development conference held in the capital Harare last week.

The Organization Leadership and Development Network, an independent  professional body headed by Dr. Justine Chinoperekweyi,  organised the conference.

The purpose of the gathering was to improve organizations and reframe attitudes about leadership.

“We are going to do strategic planning early next month (November).Developing skills is part of it, so that we begin to make a difference.

“There will be 50 slots (for the strategic planning session). From my office I am going to take five people. The other 45 slots will be coming from you (organisational development professionals) and other organisations,” Mavima said.

He added: “We want a mindset transformation. We want to change the culture in government. We want to bring change.

“Zimbabwe has everything required to achieve its aspirations but what is required is a broad based leadership programme to change those who matter in terms of delivery.

“We need a cross cutting re-orientation to build competences. We need to rewire the mind set to take this country forward. We need a new culture in government which will bring change.”

For the nation to fulfill its dreams, experts said, the transformation process of government departments will need to be fixed, or the work culture of civil servants will need to be altered.

The call is made at a time when Zimbabwe’s economy is being devastated by numerous headwinds.

Transformative change is now more necessary than ever because of these crises.

According to Mavima, a new era in human-centered design and the rewiring of the leadership mindset is necessary for societal, organizational, and individual transformation.
