A year later, DStv subscribers finally get reunited with their beloved shows

It is now a year since DStv decided to remove channels such as BBC First and Itv from its various bouquets. This meant that people who loved content from these platforms were left with very few options as the remaining channels did not offer similar shows.

However, all that is about to change.

“As promised when Itv Choice and BBC First were discontinued last year, a number of popular programmes from those have been brought back onto other platforms, to give access again to the many fans of this excellent UK-produced content. More will be brought back in future, too,” saidpublicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, Liz Dziva.

British television content is among the most respected in the world, and returns in recent months have included the famous soap opera Eastenders, the Father Brown sleuth drama, the Midsomer Murders police detective show and the quirky crime series Agatha Raisin.

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 was run from October to December, with only a week’s gap between UK screening and local broadcast. Game shows like Tipping Point and Pointless have also made  a welcome return, while various Agatha Christie crime dramas like The ABC Murders and And Then There Were None have been brought back by popular request.

“We are excited by this infusion of UK content, and we hope these and future screenings will satisfy people’s appetites for top-notch British programmes, series and films,” she added.

While most are platformed on BBC Brit, which is on DStv channel 120, some appear on other channels, and viewers are encouraged to regularly scan the electronic programme guide, as well as www.dstvafrica.com, to look up scheduling and prepare for viewing. Where possible, each show has a premiere slot and this is followed by a number of reruns to allow for viewers’ own schedules to permit viewing.

In addition to returns, there has been a screening of new British drama, prominent among them the new version of James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small, about a 1930s vet in northern England, which has its premiere slot on Sundays at 7pm.
