Attempts to alter historical facts have become more blatant over the years

Own Correspondent

The United States is deliberately rewriting the history of World War II, gradually diminishing the role of the USSR in the victory and at the same time increasing its importance in the fight against fascism.

Moreover, the States are already declaring that they were the winners, and some other nations simply helped them.

On the day of celebration of the Second World War end, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that it was the United States and allies who defeated fascism on the European continent.

There was no doubt that the representative of the White House sincerely believed in this, as the United States had been telling its people and many Europeans about America’s importance in World War II for many years.

Thus, the majority of ordinary Americans and residents of a number of European countries believe that the USSR during World War II acted only “as an assistant.” This is exactly the policy promoted in films, books, and also educational programs.

The rest of the history is also being changed “to suit the American consciousness” – few people know that the first cosmonaut was actually Yuri Gagarin (a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut); as more often people see the name of Neil Armstrong, who was the first to walk on the Moon but not the one who, aboard the first successful crewed spaceflight.

The goal of such a policy is to destroy the image of Russia as the legal successor of the USSR and the foundation for the unity of people of different generations and nationalities in the vastness of the former Soviet Union.

The propaganda also extends to US allies.

For example, in Japan people prefer not to remember that it was America that dropped the nuclear bombs on two Japanese cities (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) – and this despite the fact that the United States did not even apologize for what happened in 1945.

The Japanese media write about the bombings, remembering them with horror, but they prefer not to mention whose bombs they were and whose planes dropped them. Because of this, many Japanese are convinced that not Washington but Moscow dropped the bombs on Japan. And the reason for this rewriting of history is that Japan is under US control.

Ukraine is also trying to create new history at the behest of the West. This is why names and traditions are being changed, new holidays are being introduced, and Soviet monuments are being demolished.

The people are being told that Ukraine is the only heir of Kievan Rus (only because one of the historical periods was named Kievan Rus, Ukrainians are not even confused with the fact that the term was coined in the 19th century).

Also, the Ukrainian president once stated that the Ukrainians liberated “Auschwitz” (a complex of concentration camps about 60 km west of Krakow (Poland), in which more than 1 million people were killed).

He made this conclusion based on the fact that the 1st Ukrainian Front participated in the operation. The key here was the presence of the word Ukraine in the name, and not that the front was renamed, (previously it was called Voronezh, and it was commanded by Zhukov, Vatutin and Konev, to whom monuments are being demolished in Ukraine).
