Discontent as Baba Harare ‘dethrones’ Seh Calaz

MOREBLESSING MARANGE

Beverage manufacturer, Kambucha Fresh Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd has parted ways with its brand ambassador and talented Zimdancehall chanter Seh Calaz in what has angered fans who described the company as unprofessional in its conduct.

The company failed to renew its contract with Seh Calaz, born Tawanda Mumanyi, after it had expired in December last year citing economic challenges.

However, in a surprise move, the company announced Baba Harare as its new brand ambassador forcing Seh Calaz into issuing a statement.

Seh Calaz was appointed as the brand ambassador for Kambucha Drink in 2022 and has since actively promoted the product on his social media platforms and during his live shows.

The musician commands huge respect in the ZimDancehall circles and has a strong physical presence in the populous Mbare suburb where the product has been widely received.

“We would like to inform the general public and other stakeholders that our brand ambassadorship deal with Kambucha Zimbabwe Limited who are the manufacturers of Fresh Kambucha came to an end on 20 December, 2023,” the management said.

“Kambucha cited the tough economic environment as the reason why they were unable to renew the deal with us. We respected the company’s request to not make this announcement at that time but now since they have unveiled a new brand ambassador, we feel obligated to advise the general public of this development.”

The decision by the company seems to have angered a lot of fans who took turns to attack the company saying their decision may be misguided.

Socialite and music promoter Wanisai Mutandwa, better-known as Mahwindo in music circles, took to social media to raise her concern.

“Dear Kambucha, please bring back Seh Calaz. He is the face of Kambucha and we all know that.

Let Baba Harare and Seh Calaz act as ambassadors for your brand. He waited for you to be accepted (in the market) to not extend his contract,” Mahwindo said with a #BringBackCalaz.

Others also reacted angrily saying the brand was widely marketed by the loved artiste only to ditch him now.

Bianca Chireya said: “And we actually knew of Kambucha because of how Seh Calaz pushed the brand. I honestly thought it was his until today. That’s how personal he took it. These ones must sit down.”
