‘African Queen’ Miss Morena Drops ‘Regular’ with award-winning Malawian producer Eddy Beats

It is a BIG year for new releases from fire female artists and rappers all around the world, and Regular, is not different story. Yes, we’ve got another one that you do not want to miss! South Africa-born lyricist and performer Miss Morena drops highly anticipated not-so-regular release

This is definitely not a regular release, with a unique and distinct sound from the powerful performer as she releases an impactful joint in her powerful and distinct voice, speaking on powerful affirmations of being confident in your “regular” greatness.

Miss Morena is making her highly anticipated return with the release of her new single Regular, straight off her upcoming EP ‘Regular’, produced by award-winning producer Eddy Beats, who worked with YouTube influencer Mansa Mayne on his visit to South Africa last year.

This release comes straight after her participation in Sportscene’s ‘Put Me On’, 2022 where she was in the Top 20, and made controversial headlines after not making the Top 10.

It is no secret that women in music, and in particular Hip-Hop, have been killing it and we are confident that Miss Morena will continue to carry the flag high and do what only men in hip-hop have been praised for doing: being lyrically competitive, confident, abrasive delivery, and content that is meaningful, and not based on flaunting your body and ‘shallow lyrics’.

While speaking on the new single, Miss Morena says: “Regular is yet another anthem for the rare kind, the misunderstood, the God-sent, and the humble that understand that their assignment on earth is both regular and extraordinary” She speaks on unauthentic people, unauthentic relationships, and letting go of bad energy.

Miss Morena has been known for delivering some of the freshest and lyrical freestyles with internationally ranked cadence, flow, vocabulary, and affirmations of self; some of which are included on her 2021 The Mixtape offering. Miss’ latest offering entices listeners with her signature dynamic punchlines, flow and lyrics, giving listeners rhythmic art at its core.

About Miss Morena

Musically known as Miss Morena, Miss Morena is a rapper, writer, and performer based in Cape Town, South Africa. Born into an inclusive Pan African identity (Xhosa and Sotho background), Miss Morena is a predominantly English and Afrikaans speaking artist, described as a ‘breath taking performer able to capture audiences with her unifying narratives and dramatic performances’.

As an artist manger and record label owner, Miss Morena emphasizes independence in music- with a degree in Film and Media and Politics, and a background in student leadership. Miss Morena was born to an English teaching mother and a father who is a practicing lawyer. She has several memorable accolades in her short music career including songs featuring in documentaries and local and international film series.

Her single released in 2019 ‘The Movement‘ was featured in San Souci Girls’ High School production ‘September Girls’ reflecting on the life of antiapartheid activist Dulce September by Bertha House.

Miss Morena has participated in various festivals including the ‘Dope Fest’, Summer Fiesta, Sportscene’s Put Me On competition Top30 for 2022, and live-band music sessions Last Sunday Sessions and Selective Live both based in Cape Town.

Miss Morena received international recognition off her intro single off her debut project ‘2021 The Mixtape‘ through her ‘sisterhood anthem’ ‘Sistas‘, which made digital radio rotation on French based radio African Hip Hop Mix and HOT97 Hip-hop charts, including local radio rotation on The Good Vibes With DJ Ready D on Good Hope FM, Teemaneng Radio, and many more.

Miss Morena quit her job in 2019 to purse her career in music. Before going into music full time as a record label owner, executive producer, and artist, Miss Morena was a full time Radio and TV Journalist for a national broadcasting news station. Being open about her history and legacy of fighting and standing up against injustices against women, children, and African people.

You can hear these themes in songs like “If It Ain’t About the Freedom“, “Can We All Be Free?“, “Road to Redemption” featuring IDOLS SA Top 17 Candidate Lois Ameli, and her recently released visual hit “Sistas“, also featuring viral IDOLS SA star Chosi.

Her name is a linguistic playon- words stemming from her native background Sotho, meaning “Lord/Chief” and Espanol, meaning “a woman with African descent”

Growing up with her mother, she was raised in a music-orientated home listening heavily to Rythym & Blues and Afro-soul music as a child. From a young age, Miss Morena was influenced by the Ojays, Hugh Masikela The Manhattans, Tshepo Tshola, Shaka Khan, Brenda Fassie and Michael Jackson.

Later in her adolesence and teenage years, she became interested in Hip- Hop and Kwaito music, listening to Lil Wayne, Tuks, Mandoza, Nicki Minaj, Lauryn Hill, Tupac and J Cole.

During primary school Miss Morena took music lessons in piano and guitar, falling in love with the art of production and musical instruments. Not excluding her growth in theater and performance, doing drama and poetry recitals.

At the age of 14, she started writing her own music in search of her own identity in storytelling, she wanted to express her own truth and narratives and not sing the songs of other artists. Her voice has been described as powerful, demanding, and striking. We look forward to seeing the impact yet to come from this phenomenal performer.
