Life begins for Mtukudzi with ‘Selmor 4.0’

MAKOMBORERO TANDI

Afro-pop musician Selmor Mtukudzi turns 40 this month and her latest offering speaks true to the adage ‘life begins at forty.’

Born 40 years ago, the daughter of the late decorated musician and national hero Oliver Mtukudzi has defied odds to carry forward her father’s legacy and Selmor 4.0, her 10th album ever since she announced her presence on the musical scene in 2008, speaks to a new life.

The album was launched at Sherwood Golf Club in Harare over the weekend.

“This album for me has been just me coming into myself,” Selmor said.

She added: “I’m turning 40 this year and I wanted to express myself and I wanted to show people that I’m comfortable in my own skin. I’m happy with where I’m at in life and I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life.

“You know they say life begins at 40 so I’m looking forward to starting my life all over again.

“So this album is a reflection of that. Just me being myself, having fun, enjoying and I hope people will catch the vibe and love the album.”

Sherwood Golf Club proprietor Briggs Bhomba said the latest offering was a true reflection of the importance of music in society.

“ I believe that arts and creativity can transform our society in a manner that meets our aspirations and our hopes faster and way quicker than politics can.

“That’s what always draws me to arts and culture,” he said.
