Producer J-Smash Brings ‘The Truth’- Three HipHop Era’s Collaborate

It’s 2023 and we have all been waiting in anticipation to see the fully fledged comeback of Hip Hop that looked promising back in 2022. The New Skool have arrived, clearly showing us that another wave of artistry is on it’s way in South African Rap and Hip Hop.

DJ/Producer J-Smash is an artist that has been caught in the middle of the constant shift of generations. Real Name Uhone Luvhengo, from Louis Trichard in Limpopo, J-Smash came on to the scene in 2016 with collaborations including names like A-Reece, Ginger Trill, Emtee etc.

Around this time, SA Hip Hop was at it’s peak – powerful and widely regarded as the number one genre in SA Music. Fast forward to 2023, artists much younger and some even in his age group, have taken over the new wave of sound, showing us what to expect in SA Hip Hop moving forward.

One could refer to J-Smash as a Youth Veteran of sorts, The Truth is, that’s precisely what he is! When you have a story to tell, your own Truth, what better way to bring it than to enlist those that have been on the journey with you? ‘The Truth,’ is the first offering from his highly anticipated debut album, ‘Toxic Perfectionism.’

Smash enlists three artists from three different era’s

Enter Kwesta, a veteran well into the game, came into the industry while bands like Skwatta Kamp & Budda Bing were at the peak of their careers.

Enter Youngsta CPT, a Capetonian artist that has been gaining prominence since 2014 and currently at the top of the SA Hip Hop scene.

Enter, Thato Saul, a young Pitori MC making waves, who is arguably one of 2022’s biggest breakthrough Hip Hop artists. Three generations of the finest!

These three prominent MC’s now team up to collaborate with the new J-Smash masterpiece, bringing us bars reflective of the talent and skill we know them for.

Thato Soul opens the track with his fresh approach that has catapulted him to rap superstardom. The young Pitori Prince has stolen the hearts of South Africans with his unique and catchy rhymes and he brings this to ‘The Truth’ perfectly. His addictive Pitori slang and wordplay have a distinctive charm, that makes you want to rewind and start his verse from scratch.

Also along for the story, hailing from the West Rand and inspired as a child by artists such as Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy and TI, Flow Jones Jnr makes his mark by featuring on the track with his trademark ‘Baby voice’.

Youngsta CPT comes in with his signature aggression, with beats matching his natural hard hitting presence and grit.  Youngsta CPT entered the Hip Hop genre with the whole ‘Kaapstad’ vibe (Cape Town) as his foundation, and he rides it with the ease of a painter on a vintage portrait .

J-Smash highlights the tracks outro with Kwesta, which truly was a genius move. The K1 King is predominantly a Stand Out on relaxed High Bass beats and his signature voice waxes the tracks conclusion effectively.

On ‘The Truth’, Kwesta brings his rythmic flow with genius lyricism, boldly showcasing the reason he is the legend that he is.

J-Smash has once again managed to assemble a team of SA Rap Royalty on a body of work that further adds merit to the notion that he is up there with the best Producers in South African Hip Hop!
